Thanksgiving Quotes

It is Thanksgiving this week in America. I am taking a break from The Life of Abraham this week to spend time with family. So, I am going to leave you with these quotes about praise and thanksgiving to our Lord for all the ways He has blessed us.

George Matheson

My God, I have never thanked Thee for my ‘thorn!’ I have thanked Thee a thousand times for my roses, but never once for my ‘thorn;’ I have been looking forward to a world where I shall get compensation for my cross as itself a present glory. Teach me the glory of my cross; teach me the value of my ‘thorn.’ Show me that I have climbed to Thee by the path of pain. Show me that my tears have made my rainbow.

John Newton

The Lord afflicts us at times; but it is always a thousand times less than we deserve, and much less than many of our fellow-creatures are suffering around us. Let us therefore pray for grace to be humble, thankful, and patient.

Colossians 3:15-17

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

John MacArthur

A thankful heart is one of the primary identifying characteristics of a believer. It stands in stark contrast to pride, selfishness, and worry. And it helps fortify the believer’s trust in the Lord and reliance of His provision, even in the toughest times. No matter how choppy the seas become, a believer’s heart is buoyed by constant praise and gratefulness to the Lord.

Psalm 100

Thanksgiving QuotesShout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 150

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty expanse.
Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
Praise Him with trumpet sound;
Praise Him with harp and lyre.
Praise Him with timbrel and dancing;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!

Charles Spurgeon

It is always well to trace our mercies to Him who bestows them, and if we cannot give Him anything else, let us at any rate give Him our thanks.

Martyn Lloyd-Jones

We tend to take all the gifts and pleasures and happiness and the joy without saying much to God. We take our health and strength, our food and clothing and our loved ones, all for granted; but the moment anything goes wrong we start grumbling and complaining and we say “Why should God do this to me, why should this happen to me?” How slow we are to thank and swift to grumble.

John Newton

Prepare a thankful song
To the Redeemer’s name
His praises should employ each tongue
And every heart inflame!

Charles Spurgeon

Therefore let us even at this present moment, though the skies be dark with clouds, yet give thanks unto his name.

Isaac Watts

Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne.

Let those refuse to sing
That never knew our God;
But children of the heav’nly King
May speak their joys abroad.

William Cowper

Thanksgiving QuotesHave you no words? ah, think again,
Words flow apace when you complain;
And fill your fellow–creature’s ear
With the sad tale of all your care.

Were half the breath thus vainly spent,
To heav’n in supplication sent;
Your cheerful song would oft’ner be,
Hear what the LORD has done for me

John Newton

Let us praise, and join the chorus
Of the saints, enthroned on high;
Here they trusted him before us,
Now their praises fill the sky:
“Thou hast washed us with thy blood,
Thou art worthy, Lamb of GOD!”

Thomas Watson

A good Christian is not a grave to bury God’s mercies, but a temple to sing His praises.

Susannah Spurgeon

The praise we render is dearer to Him than that of angels—for they cannot bless Him for redeeming love, for pardoned sin, and the blessed hope of resurrection glory.

Michael Youseff

Praise teaches us to turn our eyes away from circumstances to the One who has the ability to heal, save, renew, and mend every broken heart.

John Calvin

There is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world that is not intended to make us rejoice.

R. C. Sproul

Thanksgiving is a moment to express profound, deep, sincere and genuine gratitude to the providence of God for a year’s worth of tender mercies that we have received from the hand of His benevolence. From His care, from His comfort, from His guidance, from His government of our lives, we are to take time to be grateful.

    I just love Thanksgiving! It’s my favorite holiday and I think it always helps me truly focus on what is important in life; and it’s not the things around us… 🙂

  • These are really great quotes. My fave is William Cowper’s

    Beautiful quotes on being thankful, my favorite being Colossians 3:15-17; God has given us so much to be thankful for, every day. I am your neighbor today at Cheerleaders of Faith link up. God bless you
