Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above”

Sing Praise to God Who Reigns AboveIn Ephesians 5:15-21, we are given directions on how to properly live as Christians. One of these is to sing “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.” Each Monday, I share a song from history or present day that present a high view of God, praise Him, and teaches solid doctrine.

Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above

by Johann J. Schutz

Sing praise to God Who reigns above,
The God of all creation,
The God of pow’r, the God of love,
The God of our salvation;
With healing balm my soul He fills,
And every faithless murmur stills:
To God all praise and glory.

Sing Praise to God Who Reigns AboveWhat God’s almighty pow’r hath made,
His gracious mercy keepeth;
By morning glow or evening shade
His watchful eye ne’er sleepeth;
Within the kingdom of His might,
Lo! all is just and all is right:
To God all praise and glory.

The Lord is never far away,
But, through all grief distressing,
An ever-present help and stay,
Our peace, and joy, and blessing;
As with a mother’s tender hand,
He leads His own,
His chosen band:
To God all praise and glory.

Thus, all my toilsome way along,
I sing aloud Thy praises,
That men may hear the grateful sound
My voice unweaned raises,
Be joyful in the Lord, my heart,
Both soul and body bear your part:
To God all praise and glory.

Amen.

    I loved this! Thanks for sharing!

  • What beautiful words! This hymn is new to me so I had to go to Youtube to hear it. So beautiful! Thanks for sharing with Thankful Thursdays.

  • I hadn’t heard this one, either. Now I’ve got to flip through my hymnal to see if it’s in there so I can play it on the piano tomorrow! So glad you joined us at #FridayFrivolity this week!

    I love these reminders of who God is and how He is always there for us. It’s been a difficult week, people are people, they judge, say things that hurt others and I can either sit in the corner and lick my wounds, be angry and unforgiving or I can remember this;
    “The Lord is never far away,
    But, through all grief distressing,
    An ever-present help and stay,
    Our peace, and joy, and blessing;”

    Thank you, this was just what I needed.

  • This one seems slightly familiar, but I can’t think of the tune for it. Will have to look it up. Thanks for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com this week!
