Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “Rejoice the Lord is King”

Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “Rejoice the Lord is King”In Ephesians 5:15-21, we are given directions on how to properly live as Christians. One of these is to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.

Each Monday, I share a song from history or present day that present a high view of God, praise Him, and teaches solid doctrine.

Rejoice the Lord is King

by Charles Wesley (1744)

Rejoice, the Lord is King!
Your Lord and King adore;
Mortals give thanks and sing,
and triumph evermore;
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

Jesus, the Savior, reigns,
the God of truth and love;
When He had purged our stains,
He took His seat above;
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “Rejoice the Lord is King”His kingdom cannot fail,
He rules o’er earth and heaven,
The keys of death and hell
are to our Jesus given;
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

He sits at God’s right hand
till all His foes submit,
And bow to His command,
and fall beneath His feet:
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

He all His foes shall quell,
shall all our sins destroy,
And every bosom swell
with pure seraphic joy;
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Rejoice in glorious hope!
Jesus the Judge shall come,
And take His servants up
to their eternal home.
We soon shall hear
th’archangel’s voice;
The trump of God shall sound, rejoice!

Amen.

Sing praises to God, sing praises;
Sing praises to our King, sing praises.
(Psalm 47:6)

    What a great song! I needed the reminder to praise God in all things.

    I loved this stanza:

    His kingdom cannot fail,

    He rules o’er earth and heaven,

    The keys of death and hell
are to our Jesus given;

    Lift up your heart,

    lift up your voice;

    Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

    Thank you so much for sharing this hymn! It brought so many wonderful memories flooding back from when I was attending a small country church. As I read the lyrics here once again, I could “hear” the voices from long ago singing with joy this great hymn. 🙂
