In Ephesians 5:15-21, we are given directions on how to properly live as Christians. One of these is to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.
Each Monday, I share a song from history or present day that present a high view of God, praise Him, and teaches solid doctrine.
They sang, praising and giving thanks to the Lord, saying, “For He is good, for His lovingkindness is upon Israel forever.” And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. (Ezra 3:11)
Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100)
All People That on Earth Do Dwell
by William Kethe (1561)
All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him serve with fear, His praise forth-tell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.
The Lord, ye know, is God indeed,
Without our aid He did us make;
We are His flock, He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.
O enter then His gates with praise,
Approach with joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His name always,
For it is seemly so to do.
For why? the LORD our God is good,
His mercy is forever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.
