Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “Jesus Priceless Treasure”

Jesus Priceless TreasureIn Ephesians 5:15-21, we are given directions on how to properly live as Christians. One of these is to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.

Each Monday, I share a song from history or present day that present a high view of God, praise Him, and teaches solid doctrine.

Jesus Priceless Treasure

by Johan Franck (1653)

Jesus, priceless Treasure,
Fount of purest pleasure,
Truest Friend to me,
Ah, how long in anguish,shall my spirit languish,
yearning, Lord for Thee.
Thine I am, O spotless Lamb,
I will suffer naught to hide Thee,
Naught I ask beside Thee.

In Thine arms I rest me;
foes who would molest me
Cannot reach me here.
Though the earth be shaking,
Every heart be quaking,
Jesus calms my fear.
Lightnings flash and thunders crash;
Yet, though sin and hell assail me,
Jesus will not fail me.

Jesus Priceless TreasureSatan, I defy thee;
Death, I now decry thee;
Fear, I bid thee cease.
World, thou shalt not harm me
Nor thy threat alarm me
While I ding of peace.
God’s great pow’r guards every hour;
Earth and all its depths adore Him,
Silent bow before Him.

Hence, with earthly treasure!
Thou art my pleasure,
Jesus, all my choice.
Hence, thou empty glory!
Naught to me thy story,
Told with tempting voice.
Pain or loss or shame or cross
Shall not from my Savior move me,
Since He deigns to love me.

Hence, all fear and sadness,
For the Lord of gladness,
Jesus, enters in.
Those who love the Father,
Though the storms may gather,
still have peace within;
Yea, whate’er I here must bear,
Thou art still my purest pleasure,
Jesus, priceless Treasure!

Amen.

  • What powerful words! Thanks for sharing these each week. It’s the church’s great loss if we lose these hymns. Thanks for keeping them alive.

  • This is a hymn I wasn’t familiar with. Loved these lines: Though the storms may gather, still have peace within; Yea, whate’er I here must bear, Thou art still my purest pleasure. Jesus, priceless treasure.

  • Oh, I like this hymn. I have not heard it before, but I’m thinking on the words… In His arms I rest me. The active faith to rest in His arms safe away from the world’s harms. This is what we all need to do more of.
