Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “My Hope is Built”

Hymn: "My Hope is Built"In Ephesians 5:15-21, we are given directions on how to properly live as Christians. One of these is to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.

Each Monday, I share a song from history or present day that present a high view of God, praise Him, and teaches solid doctrine.

My Hope is Built

by Edward Mote (1834)

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

Hymn: "My Hope is Built"When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in Him be found,
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

  • Absolutely one of my favorite hymns- was singing it this weekend! Thank you!

  • I remember singing this is in church as a little girl. It’s where I learned to love the lyrics of most songs. As an adult I found myself humming and singing these songs and my spirit being uplifted. The words were in me! Thanks for another refreshing hymn.

  • I love this song. We sing it often in church. It’s a great reminder of where our hope really is, in God alone.
