Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “Come Ye Sinners”

Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: "Come Ye Sinners"In Ephesians 5:15-21, we are given directions on how to properly live as Christians. One of these is to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.

The only true and pleasing worship we can offer our Lord is that which He has instructed us in His Word. Only songs that align with Scripture can be considered worthy candidates for offering our God for praise and worship.

Each Monday, I share a song from history or present day that present a high view of God, praise Him, and teaches solid doctrine.

Come Ye Sinners

by Joseph Hart (1759)

Come ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love, and pow’r.

I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

Come, ye thirsty, come and welcome,
God’s free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Ev’ry grace that brings you nigh.

I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: "Come Ye Sinners"Come ye weary, heavy laden,
Lost and ruined by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better,
You will never come at all.

I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

View Him prostate in the garden;
On the ground your Maker lies.
One the bloody tree behold Him;
Sinner, will this not suffice?

I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

Lo! th’incarnate God ascended,
Pleads the merit of His blood:
Venture on Him, venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude.

I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

Let not conscience make you linger,
Nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to feel your need of Him.

I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

Amen.

I found two versions of this song that I am just in love with. The first one is by the Getty’s. I love the Getty’s and hihgly recommend them a wonderful group to listen to. Their version is pretty fast with their signature Irish style. Love it!

This version is by Norton Hall Band. They are a musical group out of Southern Seminary. These talented young people have beautiful voices. This version is slower and more soulful. Love it!
