Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: “A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing”

A Hymn of Glory Let Us SingIn Ephesians 5:15-21, we are given directions on how to properly live as Christians. One of these is to sing “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.” Each Monday, I share a song from history or present day that present a high view of God, praise Him, and teaches solid doctrine.

A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing

by Geistliche Kirchengesang (1623)

A hymn of glory let us sing;
New songs thro’out the world shall ring:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Christ by a road before untrod,
Ascendeth to the throne of God.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia!

A Hymn of Glory Let Us SingThe holy apostolic band
Upon the Mount of Olives stand;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
And with his followers they see
Jesus’ resplendent majesty.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia!

To whom the angels, drawing nigh,
“Why stand and gaze upon the sky?
Alleluia! Alleluia!
This is the Saviour,” thus they say;
“This is His noble triumph day.”
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia!

“Again shall ye behold Him so
As ye today have seen Him go,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
In glorious pomp ascending high,
Up to the portals of the sky.”
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia!

Amen.

    I think there is rich truth in the old hymns of the faith. It’s wonderful to read the heartfelt words of saints that have gone on long before us. May our impact continue on long after us in a similar way!

    I like reading the words of some of the classic hymns! Thank you for linking up with LMM.

  • I have such a love of hymns! Then words are so rich and meaningful. We are a bagpiping family, so the hymns are awesome on the pipes!

    • I love bagpipes. When I was in college, a local bagpipe group would stand on the corner of the road just down from my dorm and would play for about an hour every Friday. I would always open the window and listen to them. I always loved it. 🙂

    I love older hymns, they take me back to my childhood and help me through hard times. There’s nothing like them. Thanks for sharing this one, I don’t think I’ve ever heard or sang it.
